Did you know that bad breath, constipation, diarrhea, yeast infections, vaginitis, increased allergies, cold sore flare-ups, toxemia, recurrent colds, and chronic infections such as acne have all been linked to an imbalance in your stomach flora?

Did you know that when you have a poor diet or you take antibiotics you are not only wiping out the bacteria causing the targeted problem, but the "good bacteria" that support your immune system as well?

And did you know that if you do not take steps to replenish the "good bacteria" (probiotics) in your stomach flora, your immune system is actually in a weakened state leaving you vulnerable to further infections and complications?

FKC Response
Scientists at FKC designed the supplement Regenesis to help rebuild your digestive system’s probiotic population, which helps digestion and helps rebuild your immunity. Each capsule of Regenesis contains billions of healthy probiotic micro-organisms, naturally found in the digestive system, all concentrated in one dose of the most health-promoting probiotics available.

Often people eat yogurt products in an attempt to improve stomach flora after a course of antibiotics or to improve immunity when suffering from infection. However, it would take roughly 24 servings of the average yogurt to equal the probiotics bacteria in one Regenesis capsule!

Like most people, you probably don’t think about what living organisms reside permanently in your body, especially your digestive system. However, the skin, mouth, stomach, small and large intestines (colon), and the vagina in women, contain a massive army of microbial troops that either promote the health of your body or are the potential cause of illness. This army is so large that it outnumbers all the living cells in your body. All these microbial populations are collectively known as the natural human "flora".

The floral populations are always changing as different microbial colonies survive, grow and multiply, or die. This natural flora contains beneficial microbes as well as harmful ones both struggling for dominance. The health-promoting microbes are known as "Probiotics". The disease promoting microbes and parasites are known as "Pathogens". The ratio between the probiotics and pathogenic populations is the key to balanced health. In general, the more probiotics an individual carries, the healthier the individual. When pathogens multiply faster than the existing probiotics and outnumber the healthy flora, you begin to experience the symptoms such as increased allergies, yeast infections, constipation, diarrhea, weakened resistance to infection, etc.

This is where probiotics supplements can make the difference between health and illness. Health can potentially be significantly enhanced with a high dose of probiotics treatment on a sustained basis. Continuous treatment with probiotics is essential because of the massive number of pathogenic microbes that may have already multiplied over the years, the use of antibiotics, and daily exposure to newly introduced pathogens through food and water contaminants, dietary choices, and environmental pollutants.

Regenesis was designed to:
  • Provide a high dose of a diverse mix the scientifically-based blend of living probiotics.
  • Guard against dominance of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
  • Provide a natural shield against gastric-infecting bacteria.
  • Allow gradual rebuilding of healthy intestinal flora to compensate for toxic antibiotics treatments that destroy the natural intestinal flora.
  • Provide natural, safe antibiotics created by the probiotics populations.
  • Assist the urogenital track in its daily fight against common infections.
  • Provide help for lactose intolerance.
  • Enhance the immune system in the stomach by promoting anti-inflammatory responses.
  • Provide help with allergies triggered by intestinal inflammation.
  • After taking Regenesis, you may notice:
  • Increased bowel regularity
  • Improvements in skin and hair
  • Reduced lactose intolerance
  • Improved breath
  • Increased immunity
  • Cessation of current infections

More Scientific Information Related to Regenesis
The Natural Flora Population of the Human Body:
Most of us do not think about what living organisms reside permanently in our bodies, especially our digestive system. That unawareness, however, does not change the fact that the skin, mouth, stomach, small and large (colon) intestines, and the vagina (in women), contain a massive army of microbial troops that promote the health of your body or the potential to cause illness. This army is so large that it outnumbers all the living cells that compose your body. Countless trillions of micro-organisms reside in your body. Of all the organs that contain micro-organisms the largest number of them dwell in the colon. All these microbial populations are collectively known as the natural human "flora" (Berg 1996).

The Wars of the Flora:
The floral populations in the intestines are always changing as different microbial colonies survive, grow and multiply, or die. This natural flora contains beneficial microbes as well as harmful ones living together fighting a continuous battle for survival and co-existence. The health-promoting microbes are known as "Probiotics". The disease promoting microbes and parasites are known as "Pathogens". The ratio between the probiotic and pathogenic populations, making their home in your intestines, is the key to balanced health. In general, the more probiotics an individual carries the healthier the individual. When pathogens multiply faster than the existing probiotics and outcome the healthy flora, sickness will surely result. For sustained health, probiotics must flourish.

Probiotics as Defense Line:
Our bodies have three major lines of defense against pathogens: The skin, the immune system, and probiotics. The skin takes care of the bulk of pathogens in the environment. But once a pathogen enters the body, only a healthy population of probiotics and an active immune system can control them. The probiotics line of defense, which is the focus in this discussion, is a significant shield against invading pathogens. Without probiotics, the intestinal gateway to the body is wide open for pathogens. All day long you ingest pathogens into your digestive track from the air and from what you eat and drink. This constant entry of pathogens into the digestive organs can't be blocked easily or completely without probiotics. We can only minimize entry with sanitary eating habits. Probiotics can neutralize or eliminate the pathogenic microbes that enter and remain. Probiotics use e strategies favored by natural selection over the millions of years of human evolution. But what if the existing probiotics in the intestines are depleted or completely destroyed? This is a serious situation that can accelerate disease initiation. We have to be cognizant of the factors that can contribute to the depletion of natural probiotics in the intestines.

Antibiotics Damage to Natural Flora:
Unsanitary food preparation, cooking, and eating can contribute to increasing the number of pathogens which compete with probiotics. This is one source of probiotic destruction. A much worse source of probiotic elimination is therapy with pharmaceutical antibiotics. Antibiotic therapies kill a large percentage of endogenous probiotics. Worldwide, use of chemical antibiotics is the major cause of demolishing the natural probiotic populations and the flourishing of pathogens in the intestines and other organs. Society has repeatedly been treated with chemical antibiotics without much replenishment of probiotics. Most notably, children are given antibiotics repeatedly. A single dose of antibiotics treatment for 7-10 days, which is the usual dose, is sufficient to wipe out a large percentage of the intestinal natural flora, good and bad! Imagine being treated with antibiotics at least once a year, every year, for a life time, a situation that is very common in industrialized and developed societies. It is no wonder many people easily succumb to infectious pathogens when in contact with other infected people. They don't have the probiotic critical line of defense and must rely only on their immune system, which may no longer be able to compete with a pathogenic infection.

Antibiotics Resistance:
The diversity of natural flora in the gut is essential to minimize dominance of a single microbial species. Diversity of probiotics allows maximum resistance to infectious pathogens by providing a multi- and diverse arsenal of strategies for combating illness. Treatment with antibiotics can eliminate heterogeneous resident probiotics while selecting for a single strain of microbes through DNA mutations. The drug-resistant microbe will now quickly flourish as a colony and dominate the bulk of the intestines. Unfortunately, single surviving strains of microbes become a major target for heterogeneous invading pathogens. Invading pathogens have diverse arrays of weapons against natural flora that only heterogeneous diverse probiotics can resist. Furthermore, any subsequent treatments with antibiotics will make these dominant colonies even more aggressive in their growth and domination. Now your intestines are inhabited primarily by a vulnerable population of microbes. The resistance wall has been breeched and infection is on the horizon.

The worldwide emergence of bacterial resistance to antibiotics has created a need for new ways to fight pathogenic infections. In addition, the toxicity of these chemical agents also demands new types of agents that promote health instead of destroy it. This is where probiotics supplements can make the difference between health and sickness. Health can potentially be significantly enhanced with a high dose of probiotic treatment on a sustained basis. Continuous treatment with probiotics is essential because of the massive number of pathogenic microbes that may have already multiplied over the years and the daily exposure to newly introduced pathogens through food and air.

How Probiotics Protect From Pathogens:
Probiotics produce and secrete a variety of anti-pathogen molecules. These inherent defenses can control or eliminate the presence or growth of almost any pathogen. These molecules are natural healthy "antibiotics" that don't have the negative side effects of known pharmaceutical antibiotics. Pharmaceutical antibiotics are toxic for at least three reasons: 1) They are used in high doses which is overwhelming to many micro-organisms, especially probiotics, 2) They are used in a very limited variety, which make them more concentrated, increasing their dose locally in tissue, and 3) They are not always natural in chemical structure and so are not biodegradable in the body. The natural probiotics antibiotics released are diverse, lower in concentration than the pharmaceutical agents, and they have natural biodegradable structure. The probiotics are not affected by their own antibiotics only the pathogens are controlled or eliminated.

It makes sense that a long history of evolution of probiotics has equipped these agents with a diverse arsenal of anti-pathogenic molecules. Pathogens that are not affected by one type of natural antibiotic will be affected by another. There is synergy between different probiotics and their varied anti-pathogen weapons against illness-causing microbes. The goal for all probiotics is to keep a healthy symbiotic relationship with the body by providing protection from pathogens in exchange for daily food.

One of the most studied health-promoting probiotic genera is Lactobacillus which is one of the dominant probiotics in the intestines. Lactobacilli produce chemicals that have powerful activity against a variety of pathogens (Silva et al 1987). These chemicals maintain the predominance of Lactobacillus among pathogenic populations in the intestines by keeping the competing pathogenic microbes under control.

There are a variety of Lactobacillus species and several of them display similar anti-pathogenic activity (Coconnier et al 1997). Lactobacillus acidophilus, for example, is known to suppress the growth of pathogens by secreting hydrogen peroxide and lactic acid (Collins et al 1980). Other species of Lactobacillus secrete molecules that block the adhesion of pathogens to the intestinal tissue surface (Velraeds etal 1996). Another Lactobacillus species converts the nutrient glycerol into a powerful growth inhibitor that can stop the growth of bacteria as well as yeasts, fungi, and protozoa (Talarico et al 1989).

Lactobacillus is not the only primary probiotic genus in the intestines that can control or eliminate pathogens. The genus Bifidobacterium is comprised of species which promote a healthy body. This probiotic organism is unique in that it is the primary probiotic selected for during breast feeding in humans (Orlando 1995). Natural human evolution has selected for different Bifidobacterium species to preferentially grow from feeding on the breast milk diet in the first two years of an infant’s life. Breast milk in humans contains sugar nutrients that selectively provide a nutrient source for Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and other probiotics species. These sugars are now being used successfully in clinical trials of infant formulas (Moro et al 2005). Adults are no different in their needs for Bifidobacterium in their guts. It will be discussed below the beneficial role of Bifidobacterium in health is well established in the research community. FKC's "Regenesis" includes Bifidobacterium probiotics. However, the most effective and scientifically well-researched of all these probiotics remains Lactobacillus species. This is one of the reasons why a diverse, well-studied collection of Lactobacillus is included as the primary ingredient in FKC's "Regenesis" supplement.

Probiotics for Gastric Diseases:
Probiotics are a significant dietary supplement for people with gastric diseases such as gastritis and peptic ulcers. Probiotics are directly implicated in the minimization or elimination of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections in the gastric and nearby tissues. Many studies have shown the viability of therapy with probiotics to mitigate H. pylori attack on gastric tissue.

One study in Japan has shown the effectiveness of probiotics treatment of H. Pylori infection (Takahashi et al 2000). The probiotics stopped the growth of H. Pylori and inhibited the adhesion of H. Pylori to gastric cells. Infection with H. Pylori was cured with the probiotics treatment. Lactobacillus probiotics bacteria is known to inhibit the growth of pathogens in the human gastrointestinal tract. The effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus ( L. acidophilus) strain on the inhibition of growth of H. Pylori was tested in several research studies. One group demonstrated the clear inhibition of H. Pylori growth by L. acidophilus ( (Bhatia et al 1989). They found that L. acidophilus secretes molecules which destroy H. Pylori. Another research group showed that L. acidophilus molecules are responsible for the observed L. acidophilus activity against H. Pylori (Coconnier et al 1998). L. acidophilus treatment of volunteers infected with H. Pylori decreased the infection in the clinic (Michetti et al 1999). Lactobacillus casei strain was also successfully tested against H. Pylori (Cats et al 2003). In addition, (Sheu et al 2002). Lactobacillus gasseri strain is equally effective in decreasing H. Pylori infections in human victims (Sakamoto et al 2001).

L. acidophilus has a unique property; it can last in the acidic stomach much longer than other probiotics. This property may allow L. acidophilus more time to directly inhibit the growth of H. pylori in the stomach and upper small intestines where the acidity is usually highest.

Probiotic treatment is also beneficial when H. pylori-infected patients are treated with a standard triple antibiotic and drug therapy. The harmful side effects of drug therapy may be decreased by using probiotics along with the therapy. One study shows that diarrhea, nausea, and taste disturbance were significantly reduced in volunteers infected with H. pylori and supplemented with Lactobacillus probiotics (Armuzzi et al 2001). Another clinical study demonstrated the ability of L. acidophilus treatment to enhance the efficacy of drug treatment on eliminating H. pylori in infected patients (Canducci et al 2000).
A new meta-analysis of all existing research confirms the effectiveness of supplementation with probiotics on eradication rates during H. pylori elimination therapy (Tong et al 2007). This is quite promising as different research results seem to point to the power of probiotics in eradicating H. pylori from infected gastric patients.

Probiotics for Urogenital Tract Infection:
Urogenital tract infections (UTI), which impact the bladder, kidneys, vagina, urethra, and cervix, is a global problem that adversely affect several hundred million women per year. In addition to these health problems, an enormous burden is placed on the health care systems around the world. Some of these infections are dangerous when they affect kidney function and can even be fatal. Pregnancy complications can occur which can result in premature birth or termination of pregnancy.
The primary source of UTI is the microbial flora from the colon, which make their way into the urogenital tract. Another source of UTI is diet which can promote probiotics or pathogens in the genital track. Yet another reason for UTI is pharmaceutical antibiotics. Most UTIs are treated with antibiotics which cause an increase in therapy resistance among the pathogens that cause UTI (Reid et al 1997). Antibiotics also disturb the natural balance of microbial flora present in the genital area which increases the risk of repeated infections by pathogenic microbes (Reid et al 1990).

One of the main reasons for persistence of UTI is the ability of the infecting bacteria to adhere tightly to the urethral mucosa tissue (Reid et al 1987). This adherence must be prevented or neutralized for any UTI therapy to work.

Lactobacillus bacteria are the most dominant probiotics present naturally in the genital area. Antibiotics destroy the healthy Lactobacillus and enhance the growth of pathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria as well as other pathogens (Redondo-Lopez et al 1990). It is essential to be able to replace the eliminated Lactobacillus continuously with new Lactobacillus probiotics (Reid 2001). The most effective Lactobacillus probiotics strain for UTI healing was found to be Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Reid et al 1987). FKC "Regenesis" probiotics supplement contains Lactobacillus species, including Lactobacillus rhamnosus, to help fight UTI.

Lactose Intolerance:
Human infants depend on the sugar lactose in their mother's milk for half their energy needs. Infants produce the enzyme lactase to digest lactose. However, adults have no use for lactose as a nutrient and many are unable to digest it because they no longer produce lactase enzyme. The inability to digest lactose is known as: "lactose intolerance" (Vesa et al 2000). The symptoms of this condition include abdominal pain, bloating, gas, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms cause many discomforts and pain for the sufferers. The symptoms are present when lactose-containing dairy, or other foods, are consumed.
Lactose intolerance is present in many countries and ethnic groups. The prevalence of the disorder is above 50% in South America, Africa, and Asia, reaching almost 100% in some Asian countries (Vesa et al 2000). Probiotic treatment of lactose intolerance is an effective therapy for minimizing the symptoms of the disorder (De Vrese et al 2001). Studies show that Lactobacillus acidophilus probiotics consumed with dairy food is more effective than a treatment with a lactase enzyme supplement (Onwulata et al 1989). Supplementation with probiotics to eliminate lactose intolerance is effective and safe even in children and infants (Saavedra et al 2004). Many cultures around the world feed their children yogurt containing probiotics.

Protection from Cancer:
DNA mutations are a primary trigger for development and progression of all types of cancer. Chemical carcinogens are molecules that cause DNA mutations. In the human colon, many carcinogenic chemicals can be present which come from pathogens and ingested toxins. This predisposes the large intestines to develop colon cancer which can be fatal when spread throughout the body. Probiotics may play a significant role in controlling the development or progression of colon cancer (Wollowski et al 2001). Probiotic anti-carcinogenic activity has been associated with preventing the initiation of colon tumors and cancers (Brady et al 2000). Colon cancer is a good target for probiotics due to its proximity to probiotic populations which can directly control cancer cells, mutagenesis and development.

Enhancing Immunity:
The positive effects of probiotics on the immune system are well established (Isolauri et al 2001). Probiotics can stimulate the immune system by secreting immune-modulating biological molecules (Miettinen et al 1996). Remarkably, probiotics have the ability to control inflammation, which can be harmful in the sick. Probiotics can also enhance immunity by stimulating the production of antibodies in healthy people (Pelto et al 1998). This demonstrates the benefits of probiotics in both the maintenance of health and defense against illness. Specific immunity through antibody production actually requires the presence of natural probiotic populations (Sudo et al 1997). The cells that trigger the initiation of the specific immune response against foreign invaders require probiotics strains like Lactobacillus (Mohamadzadeh et al 2005). This means that when antibiotics are used to eliminate pathogens they also eliminate the health of the immune system. This occurs by the elimination of the probiotics that are required for a healthy immune system. The replacement of probiotics in everyone who has been treated with antibiotics, which is all of us, is essential for a healthy immune system. FKC's "Regenesis" delivers an excellent high quality level of well-studied probiotics that may assist the immune system.

Controlling Allergies:
The frequency of allergies is increasing world-wide, especially in industrialized countries. The role of probiotics in controlling allergies is gaining interest among allergy clinicians. Probiotics form a barrier against the foreign invaders that cause allergies. Recently, a group of scientists found several general trends in people with allergies that indicate a positive role for probiotics in eliminating allergic reactions (Kalliomaki et al 2003). Infants suffering from allergies have been found to carry different populations of microbial flora than infants who do not suffer from allergies (Björkstén et al 2001). Allergic children have a delay in developing the healthy populations of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics which are found to secrete proteins that control allergies. Treatment of young children with Lactobacillus probiotics was found beneficial in decreasing Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis skin disease) severity (Majamaa et al 1997, Weston et al 2005). Infants under six months of age who had Eczema were treated successfully with Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics (Isolauri et al 2000). The infant’s skin condition was significantly improved after only two months of treatment. Supplementation of colon inflammatory disease in adult patients with Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics also reduces the disease (De Simone et al 1992). These multi-studies and many others clearly point to the powerful role of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics in the minimization of allergies. This is one of the reasons FKC's "Regenesis" exclusively contain Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotics.
